Serving the Next Generation – The Heart of Soup Kitchen Ministry in Namibia
As we step into September 2024, ICM Ministry of Soup Kitchen is making a profound impact in the DRC community of Swakopmund, Namibia. Pastor Pooshani, alongside the founders of Mama Ana’s Soup Kitchen and Belinda’s Soup Kitchen, is leading a remarkable mission to serve 250 children. These children, many from broken homes or impoverished backgrounds, lack essential nutrition and care. Through the love of Christ and a warm meal, they are not only receiving physical nourishment but also spiritual guidance and hope for the future.
Nourishing the Body and Spirit
The heart of this ministry is simple yet powerful: to provide food and bring Jesus into the lives of these children. Many of them are young, innocent, and full of potential, but they face daily challenges that no child should have to endure. These children are like angels, innocent and full of promise, and it would be heartless to turn away from their needs.
Through the soup kitchen, they receive sufficient nutrition to help their bodies grow strong, but more importantly, they are introduced to the life-changing message of the Gospel. They are taught Bible stories, instilled with the principles of God’s Word, and led in prayerful living. As they learn to trust God, they begin to discover that they are not alone in life’s struggles. Teaching them how to pray equips them with a powerful tool to navigate challenges, and showing them the love of Christ reminds them that they are cherished.

The Biblical Mandate to Care
The ministry is rooted in the teachings of Scripture, particularly Jesus’ own words in Mark 9:37 (NIV):
“Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.”
Welcoming and caring for children is a way of welcoming God Himself. These little ones are the future, and investing in their lives is an act of love toward God.
Furthermore, Proverbs 22:9 (NIV) says, “The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor.” Generosity is at the heart of God’s Kingdom, and those who share their resources with the needy are blessed in return. By feeding these children, we are planting seeds not only for their physical well-being but also for their spiritual growth and future potential.

Why We Must Act
Children are the future of any society, and they are our hope for tomorrow. If we do not start teaching them the right principles and leading them down the right path, our future will be severely impacted. These children need guidance, love, and the Word of God to develop into the leaders, parents, and citizens who will shape the world to come.
At the Soup Kitchen, the team led by Pastor Pooshani shows these children love and care, leading them in praise and worship, and reminding them that they are not forgotten. Many of these children are from broken or poor families, and this simple act of kindness makes a tremendous difference in their lives.
Be Inspired to Serve
The work happening in Swakopmund is a reminder to us all: we are called to care for the poor, the needy, and the vulnerable. These children represent not only a present need but also the future. As Christians, we must heed the call to serve, love, and invest in the next generation.
If we open our hearts and follow Christ’s example, we can make a lasting impact. Whether through direct involvement, prayer, or support, we are all invited to participate in God’s work. Let’s remember that when we welcome and care for these little ones, we welcome God Himself.
