Signing MOU with Tanjung Balai Prison
4 December 2023, Tanjung Balai. Report by Ps Samuel Pakpahan.
Praise the Lord! Positive outcomes in Siantar and Samosir Prisons have prompted officers at Tanjung Balai Prison to consider officially recognizing our ICM ministry within its walls. The recent signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ICM Indonesia and Prison Management introduces the ICM BSIB program, a discipleship program. This signing represents a significant milestone toward effective prison governance.
Students enrolled in the ICM BSIB classes have received sentence reductions. Since its establishment in 2005, this program has yielded remarkable results, witnessing around 300 individuals embracing salvation and 250 prisoners undergoing baptism.
Initially held once a week for a duration of 2 hours, plans are underway to expand the class hours. Organizers are working towards rearranging the schedule for the upcoming year, taking into account the diverse range of programs operating within the prison.
Notably, former inmates have initiated the ‘Manna Ministry,’ conducting independent Bible studies and engaging in outreach programs, extending their efforts to street communities. This demonstrates the enduring impact of the prison’s rehabilitative efforts.
The workings of God’s mighty hands are evident in this ministry. With more willing church workers joining in, we witness the fulfillment of the Kingdom’s purpose flourishing in Indonesia.
